World Series Final Game Draws Over 50 Million Viewers In the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The exciting extended clash that saw the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a total 51M viewers across the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this represents the most-watched Fall Classic finale since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase over the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game averaged over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete US viewership reached 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase over last year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
