Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden title for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just one match at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - led to him falling of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents his maiden trophy after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the first title I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted some to wonder if his skill to play at the elite level was over.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play positively, reinforced by an improved serve.

He fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair traded service breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued four early-game break points in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
