Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers growing in power within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of heroes who will separate from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This means them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
